West Amwell Township has been working to update their Master Plan in order to protect farmland and open space and to protect the rural quality of the community. The Township has involved local organizations, residents, and other township committees in the Master Planning process in order to gather feedback on pressing issues in West Amwell. With this guidance, decision-makers have support to ensure the Master Plan has a successful outcome. Ongoing work and past accomplishments, such as documenting West Amwell’s extensive history, set the foundation for a strong Master Plan.
Some of West Amwell’s accomplishments include:
- Implementing a natural resources protection policy that works to preserve ecological, agricultural, and scenic resources.
- Providing language regarding critical habitats in an ordinance to protect steep slopes and stream corridors.
- Including an option for cluster development in newly rezoned areas to protect open space elsewhere in the Township.
- Educating residents about and promoting the historic district of Mt. Airy, including a pictorial inventory of historical sites and video interviews.
- Using a checklist when reviewing development applications to ensure all requirements are met.
- Requiring preliminary site sketches in soil erosion and sediment control language.
- Participating in the County Fair and conducting historic homes tours to further educate residents about Historic Preservation in the Township.
