Characterization & Assessment
What challenges do individual regions within our watershed face? And how should we address the problems? The Watershed Association’s Characterization & Assessment reports answer these questions. After completing an exhaustive Watershed Reconnaissance study to identify priority targets in need of critical action and protection, the Watershed Association took a closer look at individual subwatersheds – or smaller regions within the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed. Using data about land use, geology, soils, critical habitats, population changes and water quality, the Watershed Association’s Characterization & Assessment reports determine the current conditions and identify the appropriate tools to restore, enhance or protect our water and environment.
Through our Characterization & Assessment reports we aim to improve water quality and habitats, and educate local residents, businesses and municipalities about reducing pollution and protecting our water and environment. We have completed Characterization & Assessment reports for six subwatersheds:
- Beden Brook (2001)
- Rocky Brook (2003)
- Cranbury Brook (2005)
- Royce Brook (2005)
- Heathcote Brook (2007)
- Duck Pond Run (2008)
