Children’s Programs

Registration is required for all Watershed Association programs, unless stated otherwise. Space is limited. All programs meet at the Buttinger Nature Center, unless stated otherwise. Please call (609) 737-7592 to register.

Payment is accepted by cash, check, VISA, MasterCard or Discover and can be dropped off at the Nature Center or mailed to:

Refund Policy: A full refund will be made if notice of cancellation is received at least 48 hours before a program. Call (609) 737-7592 to cancel. No refunds or credits will be given after that time. Watershed Association membership is not refundable.

    Friday, 10-11 AM, Children 18-36 months, Fee per child: $7 members/$10 non-members

    You and your ‘budding naturalist’ are invited to join Pam Newitt on one- or all- of these monthly outdoor adventures. She will lead toddlers on an exploration of the natural world. Children and adults should dress for the outdoors.

    Friday, 10:30 AM-12:00 PM, Families (children 3 and older), Fee per person: $8 members/$12 non-members

    You are invited for tea with the butterflies of the Watershed Reserve! Learn how and why butterflies are drinking sweet “tea” from flowers. We begin by learning more about butterflies, and then try to catch them with a net for a close up look at their beautiful, but fragile, bodies. Finally, join us in our backyard for iced tea, lemonade and butterfly sugar cookies.

    3rd Annual Fairy Festival

    Saturday,10:30AM-1:00PM, Families, , Fee: $5 per person or $15 per family

    Come celebrate the return of Rainbow Fairies, Woodland Fairies and Forest Elves to the Watershed Reserve. Dance around a maypole, create magical crafts, construct villages along the Fairy Trail and play in the stream with the Water Sprites! You are invited to wear your fairy finery!

    BSA ‘Insect Study’ Merit Badge

    Wednesday, 9:30AM – 12:30PM, Boy Scouts 11yo+, Fee per scout: $20

    Join Education Director/BSA Merit Badge Counselor Jeff Hoagland for this half-day workshop, designed to help Boy Scouts earn the Insect Study merit badge. Out on the trails in field, forest, and streamside scouts will learn to observe and identify a wide variety of insects, discovering the secret lives of our smallest neighbors.

May 19: Family Fun Walk in Kunkel Park

Join one of the Naturalists in the park before the start of Pennington Day! We will explore special nooks and crannies that invite the exploration of nature. Registration requested. Meet us at the park picnic area. Learn more!
