CRANBURY TOWNSHIP
23-A NORTH MAIN ST.
CRANBURY, NJ 08512
(609) 395-0544
http://www.cranburytownship.org

A diverse community of farms, large industry, small retail, an historic Main Street and major highways, Cranbury Township works to provide a place for all amenities in their community.

Cranbury Township’s Main St., including some of the homes and shops, is listed on the State Register for Historic Places. The Main St. is a unique experience in and of itself and the Township has created specific committees and programs dedicated to protecting its character. This is just one example of the proactive measures municipal leaders have taken in the Township to enhance the already charming character, while allowing for commercial and economic development in the appropriate places.

Some of Cranbury’s accomplishments include:

  • Designating Farmland Preservation and Commercial/Industrial Development areas in the Master Plan and on updated maps. Clarifying this language helps the Township protect farmland, farming, scenic vistas and open space. It also allows for appropriate commercial development along the major highway corridors so as not to upset protected areas.
  • Maintaining rural character in the midst of surrounding growth and development. Cranbury Township has successfully kept development at bay while managing to maintain a rural character with exceptional vistas. Since 1993, over 872 acres of farmland have been preserved, with 489 acres pending approval for participation in the open space program.
  • Educating residents and municipal officials on the value of protecting their community and environment.  The Association has partnered with the Township conduct education programs for Cranbury residents.
  • Encouraging the public to participate in meetings and programs by holding events like Cranbury Day, sending out a town newsletter, and consistently asking for the public’s well-educated, well-informed opinion.

A full description of the work completed in Cranbury Township can be found in Cranbury’s Municipal Assessment report entitled “Taking the Next Step”.  This report is a document for municipal officials to use now and into the future.  It lays out options to enhance programs or policies already on the books in Cranbury Township and highlights work completed in the township.  Go to the full report to read about the 11 subjects assessed in the township or for a quick glimpse of the report you can also view the Executive Summary.
