SUMMER CAMP GROUP LEADERS
The Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association is seeking enthusiastic and motivated people for positions at their 2008 Summer Environmental Education Day Camp. The outdoor camp is conducted at the Watershed Association's 860-acre nature reserve in Hopewell Township, NJ and includes some field trips, canoeing and occasional overnight camping. The emphasis of the camp is on ecology and the environment. The co-ed campers range in age from 6-14.
Group Leaders are needed to assist the Summer Camp Director in planning and preparing for six weeks of camp. They will implement the program with the help of summer camp counselors. Academic background in ecology, education, environmental studies or some related field preferable, along with training in Advanced First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguard certification. Requires camp curriculum review before training. Prior summer camp work experience highly desirable.
Dates of Responsibility:
June 16-20 & 23-27, 2008 (9 a.m. - 5 p.m.) - Two-week Training and Orientation
June 30-August 8, 2008 (8 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.) - Six-week Summer Camp (No camp on July 4)
Compensation:
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with children, preferably in an outdoor setting
- Strong interest in working with children of all ages
- Enthusiasm for the outdoors and sharing nature and the environment with others
- Good communication skills
- First aid/CPR certification and/or lifeguard certification a plus
- 8 week availability

Summer Camp Counselors assist Group Leaders plan and prepare for the six weeks of camp. They assist campers in exploring and interpreting the local ecology. They also help Group Leaders implement the program by leading exploratory activities aimed at increasing awareness, appreciation and knowledge of the natural world. Some background, interest or coursework in ecology, environmental/outdoor education is preferable. High school seniors and college students are encouraged to apply. Prior summer camp work experience desirable.

GIS INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
The Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association, a dynamic and multifaceted non-profit conservation organization, is seeking Geographic Information System (GIS) interns.
The Watershed Association is dedicated to protecting clean water and the environment in the 265-square mile region of central New Jersey drained by Stony Brook and the Millstone River. The Association's offices are located on an 860-acre nature reserve. The Association operates a nature center, summer camp, and extensive environmental education program; works with towns, citizens, and businesses to improve land use decisions; and conducts stream monitoring and restoration efforts.
GIS interns will help in creating maps to support the Association's programs, organizing existing GIS data sets, gathering new data sets, and maintaining the internet map server for the GIS Center at Stony Brook.
Candidates should be knowledgeable of GIS concepts and have experience with a GIS software package - preferably ESRI ArcGIS, Open-source GRASS or Manifold. Familiarity with environmental science, GIS-based environmental analysis, VBA, Javascript, XML, and HTML is a plus.
The internships offer no monetary compensation, only valuable hands-on experience and training. Working hours are flexible, but a minimal 4 hours per week commitment is preferred.
