Deer, rabbits, Canada geese and other waterfowl should be viewed as Public Enemy #1 when it comes to the seeds and plants that are now protecting your stream! Small woody plants and shrubs are especially vulnerable to damage from these animals. Protection of these plants during the first year after the restoration is critical to the success of the project. Most protection products dubbed “deer protection” also provide protection from Canada geese, and, for the most part, rabbits. Thus, any reference to “deer protection” here refers to protection from browsing animals in general.
